During World Economic Forum Week in Davos, Dustin Plantholt received the Faith & Service Leadership Award from the Islamic Religious Community of North Macedonia—a moment that quietly bridged cultures, faiths, and life paths that rarely intersect.

Presented in Switzerland, the recognition reflected a journey that began far from global stages. What made the moment especially meaningful was not the setting, but the message behind it: a belief that personal history does not limit future impact, and that leadership rooted in service can emerge from anywhere.

The award was conferred by Shaqir Fetai, and stands as a reminder of the power of interfaith respect and shared human values. It also underscores a broader truth Dustin often returns to—progress is rarely linear, but perseverance has a way of carrying further than circumstances ever suggest.

From Dustin:
“A foster kid from Rainbow, California getting recognized by the Islamic Religious Community of North Macedonia in Davos, Switzerland.

Read that again. I still can’t believe it myself.

The Faith & Service Leadership Award. But honestly, it’s what they wrote that got me:

“For rising from foster care to global leadership, proving that in each of us, we are capable of reaching beyond our circumstances.”

If you’re reading this and life dealt you a rough hand, keep going. The world is bigger than the box they tried to put you in.

Deep gratitude to Reisul Ulema H. Hfz. Shaqir ef. Fetai. And to everyone along the way who saw potential when I couldn’t see it in myself.
